In the article “How To Move Sexual Energy To Prolong Your Love Making” you have learned about moving the energy away from the sexual organs. Since the center of the sexual energy is located more or less around Muladhara, the first chakra, and Svadhishthana, the second chakra, to move that energy away you need to focus your energy on the chakras located above it, i.e. at the very least on Manipura (3rd chakra) or the other 4 chakras above it.
However you can use that same sexual energy to purify and enhance your first two chakras as well. Since doing that will require keeping the sexual energy in place, rather than moving it away, it’s a more advanced practice, definitely for the men, who whom it’ll be difficult to control the ever increasing level of sexual energy in the area of the genitals of both lovers and not ejaculate. Therefore, I recommend doing this work either after you have learned how to move the sexual energy up to the higher chakras, or if you aren’t interesting in learning that and instead would like to use the existing energy to enhance the first two chakras.
In this article I will discuss how to work with your sexual energy in Muladhara, your first chakra.
Muladhara chakra is found at the base of one’s body: in the perineum area between the anus and the genitals. This is the location of the PC muscle, a foundational group of muscles that both men and women need to have a good control of for better sexuality.
This is also the seat of the mysterious Kundalini Shakti, which often is represented as a snake coiled at this very chakra and which is normally asleep. When a person experiences an orgasm it’s said that the energy of Kundalini gets aroused and it tries to go up, through through Sushumna nadi, the subtle energy channel that goes along the spine, trying to reach Sahasrara, the crown chakra. If this channel and the chakras are not blocked then the energy reaches the crown and a blissful high state of consciousness is experienced. There are other ways to raise Kundalini, and sexuality is but one such way, albeit probably the most pleasurable one.
Why would you care for this Kundalini energy to reach its destination in the crown chakra? Because, not only you will feel an incredible unearthly-level of bliss, but if you do it often enough, your spiritual energy will rise to a higher level and overtime this will lead you to less suffering and more bliss in your daily life. Really, the Tantrics of lore beat the deprivation-oriented systems of spirituality and found a way to do spiritual work in a pleasurable way.
And while special Yoga practices provide all that one needs to facilitate a painless ascent of Kundalini, just having sex with an awareness and a focus on higher chakras over time will help to pave the way. Of course Yoga will make it happen so much faster.
Muladhara carries the energy of the Earth element. It’s your life force battery. Your vitality, strength and endurance all come from this chakra. In order to engage in extended love making sessions you will definitely need to work on having this chakra charged with vital energy. While not necessarily important for creating a deep connection during sex, powerful Muladhara does lead to stronger erections in men and more powerful orgasms in both sexes.
Sex on Muladhara is very animalistic in a sense of rawness, power and speed, but not necessarily violent to each other. Though it can be a huge turn on for some women who “need to be taken” to enjoy sex. Imagine buffaloes or elephants copulating and you get the idea. Buy sturdy furniture or do it on the floor!
footnote 1: writing this I can’t help but remember the time when my lover and I broke the bed we were “practicing” on, while participating in a Tantra training in Brazil. I trust they invested in sturdier furniture after our visit ;)
In order to make love on the Muladhara chakra, you need to have an unwavering focus of your mental attention in the area of your perineum. The energy will naturally follow your focus. The rest of this article will give you various aids to help you to stay focused on Muladhara.

Here are some very powerful Yoga practices, that work with Muladhara chakra:
- Samavritti Pranayama
Love Making Positions
Body positions that will aid in activating the Muladhara chakra are with woman having her legs raised, with her knees to her shoulders, as it can be seen from the following depictions:
Metals & Gemstones
The metal that resonates with the Muladhara chakra is lead, and since it’s a toxic metal, it’s definitely not a good idea to wear it on your body.
If you engage in or intently watch aboriginal tribal/African-style dance (lots of drums) before love making, you will have your Muladhara nicely activated.
As discussed earlier, Muladhara is all about Mother Earth, and since these days the few remaining aboriginal tribes are really the only ones that are energetically well connected to her. It is their music that brings powerful resonance with the energy of Muladhara. That means that most tribal/aboriginal music recordings involving drums and didgeridoo will activate Muladhara when listened to for an extended period of time.
Here is a good starting list of such sound tracks:
- Drummers of Burundi (a variety of their albums)
- Etnoscope – Drums From The Dawn Of Time
- Brent Lewis – Samba de Drum + The Magic Purple Shell (album: Rhythm Hunter)
- Anugama & Sebastiano – African Journey (from Baraka (OST))
- DJ Delirium – Native American Dream (album: Spirit of Relaxation)
- Ganga Giri – Beats Around the Bush and his other didgeridoo albums
- Terra Africa – Didgeridoo & Percussions D’Afrique
To activate Muladhara watch movies that involve tribes and prehistoric eras, depicting men in activities that require a lot of physical strength, which was normally a requirement for survival. A lot of the times strength, which is the aspect of Muladhara, is not enough for survival, and will and determination, which are the aspects of Manipura, are required, therefore, most movies of this kind will have the effect of activating both chakras: Muladhara and Manipura. If you focus specifically on the aspect of pure strength and ignore the willpower, then you will be able to isolate the energy of Muladhara chakra.
Here are a few movies to start with:
Watching sports where strong men and women compete in tasks requiring immense strength can be another source of inspiration and resonance. Consider “The World’s Strongest Man” [IMDB] and other strongman competitions.
You might be able to activate Muladhara by reading books that have to do with working the Earth, i.e. gardening, mining and earth building to name a few. You will have to really imagine yourself doing the parts described in such books to accomplish that.
Digging in the garden, going on a mining expedition (e.g. mineral and crystal hunting), constructing things from earth or any other activity that connects you with soil and ground is going to help you activate Muladhara chakra.
You may choose to engage in lifting weights, sumo and other kinds of wrestling and doing other Muladhara type activities that require pure physical strength.
If you feel inspired and would like to dive even deeper into the science of chakras, here is a list of books I recommend to read to deepen your knowledge of chakras:
- Shyam Sundar Goswami – Laya Yoga – The Definitive Guide to the Chakras and Kundalini. This is a very in-depth and advanced text on the science of Tantra.
- Swami Sivananda Radha – Kundalini Yoga for the West. This is a much easier to read text than the above “Laya Yoga”, yet it’s still a very in-depth treatise on chakras.
Other important books to study:
- Nik Douglas, Penny Slinger – Sexual Secrets – The Alchemy of Ecstasy. This is an excellent in-depth guide on Asian sexuality (Tao, Tantra, etc.).
